A major renewable energy project could be on the cards for the west side of Lewis as Pelamis Wave Power Ltd have started discussions with local representatives regarding the development of a project off Great Bernera.
If those talks are successful it is hoped that construction would begin on the project within the next four years and it is expected that the site would consist of around 25 wave power machines.
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Leader, Angus Campbell warmly welcomed the intiative saying that the Outer Hebrides have some of Europe’s richest marine resources and that the potential of these should be used to the benefit of the Isles’ community.
