The vessel National Geographic Explorer prepares to head out of Stornoway following her unscheduled stop.
THE National Geographic Explorer cruise ship made an unscheduled stop at Stornoway Harbour this morning, interupting her passage from to the Orkney Islands.
The vessel – with 119 mainly American passengers on board – was diverted to the town when one of her guests became unwell and it was decided that its travellers could disembark, whilst the crew sought treatment for the ailing passenger.
Thus, those on board gained a bonus stop on their itinery and were able to have a quick look around town – despite heavy showers cloaking Stornoway in a grey smock.
However the vessel’s stay was short lived and it was soon on its way at 11am continuing its journey to Inverue its next stop in an itinery which included the Scilly Isles, Ireland, St Kilda and Iona.
The next scheduled visitors to Stornoway Port are the Anglican Prince, due tomorrow (June 19) and the famous Hebridean Princess, due on June 23 (Tuesday).
